We guide every tree planter in our team to understand the intricate balance that each planting season requires to ensure maximum survival and growth rates.

Prioritizing Safety

It is critical to prioritize safety not only for our team members but also for the trees planted. Our safety measures include proper handling of plant roots during planting to ensure they aren’t damaged, and providing solid ground for growing trees. We meticulously monitor each planting process, minimizing risks associated with incorrect planting depth or inadequate watering, which can adversely affect the tree’s growth and survival. This cautious approach underpins our commitment to fostering healthy, thriving trees.

Fully Insured

At Trilogy Tree Services, you don’t have to worry about the potential financial repercussions of any unexpected incidents during the tree planting process. We are fully insured and provide Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) coverage for all our employees. This comprehensive protection ensures both our team and our clients can confidently engage in creating greener spaces, knowing they are fully safeguarded against any unforeseen circumstances. Our commitment to safety extends beyond our planting practices, encompassing the well-being of everyone involved.

Our Tree Planting Services

Tree Selection

Our expert arborists meticulously select the perfect tree for your site considering factors such as soil condition, sun exposure, and the tree’s growth requirements. Our team understands the importance of root growth and ensures that the selected trees have a robust and healthy root ball to guarantee their survival in the new environment.

Planting

We begin the planting process by carefully preparing the planting site and digging a planting hole that is twice as wide as the root ball. This gives the roots enough space to spread out and establish themselves in the newly planted shrubs. We consciously avoid excess oil in the planting hole, which could harm the root growth. Instead, we prefer to mix native soil with organic matter like peat moss to achieve optimal soil texture and moisture levels.

Care

After planting, we provide essential care to promote healthy growth. This includes regular watering to maintain soil moisture, essential for the root ball. Our team has a keen understanding of the watering requirements of different tree species and adjusts the watering frequency and amount accordingly.

Mulching

Mulching is an integral part of our tree-planting services. Mulch helps retain soil moisture, keeps the root ball cool, and suppresses weed growth. It also adds organic matter to the soil, enhancing its fertility and promoting healthy root growth. We typically apply a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base of newly planted shrubs but not touching the trunk to prevent rot.

Irrigation

We understand that watering newly planted trees and shrubs needs to be done right to ensure their survival and growth. Our team ensures that the plantings are watered deeply and thoroughly immediately after planting to settle the backfill soil around the root ball and eliminate air pockets. We then adjust the watering schedule based on the seasons, with fall planting often requiring less frequent watering than spring or summer plantings.

Post-Planting Care

Our services do not end with planting. We continue to monitor the tree’s health, ensuring it adjusts well to its new environment. We check for signs of water stress and adjust the irrigation as necessary. We also inspect for signs of disease or pest activity and treat them promptly to ensure your trees remain healthy and vibrant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I manage excess soil when preparing my planting site?

When preparing your planting site, it’s possible you’ll end up with excess soil. The key here is to ensure this soil doesn’t go to waste. Excess soil can be used to fill in low areas in your yard, create new garden beds, or be mixed with organic matter to improve soil structure. It’s important to remember that the native soil structure is crucial for a tree’s root system development, so avoid removing too much from the planting site, as this can affect the tree’s health and stability.

How often should I water my newly planted tree?

The watering requirements for a newly planted tree can vary based on the tree species and the time of year it was planted. However, a general rule is to water deeply once a week. This helps ensure that the tree’s root system has access to the water it needs to establish itself. If you notice signs of water stress (such as wilting leaves), you might need to adjust your watering frequency.

What is the importance of a mess tent in tree planting?

A mess tent plays a vital role in large tree planting projects, acting as a central hub for workers to rest, take meals, and store equipment. It’s especially crucial in remote planting sites, providing much-needed shelter from harsh weather conditions. But, remember, a tidy mess tent is important to ensure efficiency and prevent accidents.

When is the best time to plant a tree?

The ideal time to plant a tree is in the early spring, just before the tree’s growth season begins but after the harshest winter weather has passed. This timing gives the tree’s root system a chance to establish itself before the tree starts putting energy into producing leaves and fruit. However, the best planting time can vary based on your local climate and the specific tree species.

How are tree prices determined?

Tree prices can vary widely based on several factors. These include the type of the tree, its size, whether it’s sold bare-root or in a wire basket, and the nursery’s overhead costs. Smaller, bare-root trees are typically less expensive than larger trees sold in wire baskets. Additionally, rare or fast-growing species may command higher prices. It’s always a good idea to compare prices from several nurseries to ensure you’re getting a fair deal.
